Intro to Astro Photography

Intro to Astro Photography

Friday 05 July

Wentworth Falls Picnic Area - 7pm - 2 Hours

Robert Palejs

Do you gaze up at the night sky with wonder?

What about looking up at the stars and thinking, how old that light you are seeing is?

Maybe you watch as day and night morph into one, and the stars come out to play.

This meetup is going to cover everything you need to know to start capturing amazing single-shot astrophotography and a few extra bits of helpful advice. The learned basics of capturing a single frame will form the building blocks of your astrophotography journey. Think of this meetup as your first step on that journey or for those who have already started, maybe a road sign.

Astrophotography looks amazing and packs a real punch, however, you do not need to spend a fortune to partake. Does gear make a difference, the simple answer is yes, but it is not the deciding factor when it comes to astrophotography.

This meetup will look at planning your session, camera settings, and required equipment. I want this meetup to help you maximize your current gear as your start capturing milky way shots.

These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. I was very impressed even before the course started as Rob sent out an email the day before, with the meet up details along with what would be covered during the course. I had a couple of questions and he replied very promptly.
During the course, I was also very impressed how Rob explained the technicalities of astrophotography and took the time to guide and comment on everyone's images throughout the evening. I learned how to use the infinity marker on my lens for focusing and also asked Rob for his advice on lenses and what to consider when choosing lenses. I also had my camera fail on two occasions during the evening and Rob explained how to go about resetting the camera and overcoming the problem.
We had a brilliant night for astrophotography and I came away with quite a number images that looked fanatstic without needing to be edited.
    Thank you very much Rob!

I received my first camera at 8 years old and photography has been a part of my life ever since. For me photography is not just a job, it is something I am extremely passionate about and love to do. Photography has always been about the next image for me and the adventure to get it. What makes that adventure is the experience and people along the way. I believe that Photography should trigger a response and move a viewer.
