I feel like peanut butter is a staple in almost every home. From baking to sandwiches, I can’t even tell you how much peanut butter I eat in a year. It would probably be a scary number even if I knew. Regardless, I was able to try some of Pacific Beach Peanut Butter, and let me tell you- this will put your old reliable peanut butter right on the back burner.

I was able to try out two of Pacific Beach Peanut Butter flavors, Organic with Valencia Peanuts and their Signature Peanut Butter. Without a doubt that the signature peanut butter was some of the best peanut butter I have ever had. No questions about it.

The Organic Peanut Butter with Valencia Peanuts wasn’t really my thing, but it didn’t taste bad. I just prefer crunchy peanut butter and something with a little more sweetness to it. I would use this peanut butter for baking or treat making though rather than the Signature flavor.

For me, the Signature Flavor was the STAR of the show. It’s just the right amount of crunchy and sweet. When I opened both of these up, I was a little perplexed at this one because it looked, well, gritty. It wasn’t gritty! It was perfect. I had everyone in my house try this after I did, and they all agreed, A+!



We just had to claim it as Our Signature Peanut Butter because we know that we’ve created the best tasting Peanut Butter ever! With an ever so light crunch of toffee and 4g of Protein per serving, you’ll see why it’s our best selling flavor. Wanna Spoon?




My Thoughts on Pacific Beach Peanut Butter


I can tell that Pacific Beach Peanut Butter really care and love about what they are putting into their peanut spreads. Both of the spread I tried were super tasty, with very limited ingredients.

Auggie is possibly the most spoiled dog in the history of existence. Ok, maybe not, but he is probably the most spoiled pooch I have ever had. We order from chewy.com every two weeks usually, and this month through their influencer program I was able to review the Purina Beyond Grain-Free Alaskan Cod Recipe dog food.



I was looking for something a little less expensive than what we normally buy him- American Journey canned food. It gets quite costly every two weeks ordering a couple of cases of food, but it’s even more costly buying it individually from the pet store. Chewy.com definitely has the best value, but what food has the best value?

What did Auggie Think of Purina Beyond?


This dog is so picky, it’s unreal. I’ve actually seen him turn down a bite of sandwich. He’s not very food driven at all, so finding things he likes- it’s a feat. Auggie did really enjoy Purina Beyond Grain-Free food and eats all of his dinner every time we serve this mixed in with his normal dry food. The best thing about this food? It’s fish based.



Fish is the best kind of food to feed to dogs that are prone to allergies. Auggie’s dad was an Olde English Bulldogge, so his breed is pretty prone to developing food allergies. I can never be too careful about what I feed him, so I tend to stick to fish based formulas as my vet advised me they are better for allergy prone breeds.

Archer is the king cat around here, recently- he managed to escape out the door and was missing for four days! We found him on the roof. We think after a couple of days he climbed the ladder that leans against the side of our house (We were repairing shingles) because he was not there when we went looking for him. My Thoughts


I really liked that when I dumped this food into Archer’s bowl, I could tell it was actual real chunks of meat. I feel much better feeding my pets things that I recognize.



After Archer’s adventure, I wanted to get food and water into him asap. He had clearly lost weight over the four days of adventuring he did. I immediately fed him a pack of the Wellness Healthy Indulgence Gravies. He devoured it. I let that meal settle and fed him another pack about 6 hours later. I was happy knowing that this is higher quality food that has a lot of nutrients. Fast forward another week, and Archer is completely back to normal. Except, I can’t even look towards the Wellness Healthy Indulgence Gravies box without him meowing at me. Apparently, he likes it, and if he likes it- so do I.








Chirps Chips | Review

Everyone loves a good chip. It’s the basic side dish to every BBQ, family gathering, or summer cookout. Chirps take your basic chip to a whole new level, great taste, great for the environment, and great for you!



What sets Chirps apart from all other chips? Well, it’s what they are made of. Crickets! I remember several years ago reading an article about how the meat industry is horrible for the environment and a better alternative is bugs. I never thought I would see the day someone took that vision and turned it into reality. Crickets are protein packed, and take FAR less water to grow than other protein sources.


 


So Why Crickets?


Crickets require less water than beef, whey, lentils, soy and eggs to produce.




If you’re panicking because you heard crickets taste like crickets, and you don’t know what crickets taste like, don’t bug out. To be honest, crickets don’t taste like much and can be best described as having a subtle nutty flavor. If anything, adding crickets to your favorite foods will only clear away the flavor of guilt and make them taste even better.



They also contain more protein, iron & Calcium than other protein sources.



What Did They Taste Like?


Honestly, I know you all want to know what they tasted like- and though I have eaten bugs before- fried, I had never tried anything “Made” with crickets. I actually was really surprised! These chips were so good! No, they don’t taste gross! They taste like high-quality stone-ground seasoned chips. There was no bad aftertaste at all, and I quickly demolished the whole bag. It was a great snack to include with my lunch, and I didn’t feel guilty one bit for eating them. And no, I didn’t have cricket legs stuck in my teeth… That is what everyone asked me. I had my whole family try them, and they were a huge hit. Even my grandfather who is the toughest food critic asked where he could buy them because he liked them that much. I definitely approve of them!

What began as a failed attempt to feed fried crickets from the pet store to our dorm-mates has since transformed into a small business with “bug” goals for the future of food!


From breaking the world record for the world’s largest nachos (with a crickety twist) to making a deal with Mark Cuban on Shark Tank, we have come a long way from those days when even our closest friends wouldn’t go near our food.


In the beginning, people told us to hide the fact that our products have insects in them and to just talk about the nutritional benefits. That’s not us. At Chirps, we believe in our mission and we want to get people excited about eating bugs, one delicious cricket chip at a time.


If eating bugs is wrong then we don’t want to be right!

I love Chirps mission and am so entirely glad they are trying to normalize eating bugs. Everyone has this stigma against bugs, but I am happy to see companies like this breaking that stigma into pieces and using bugs as a sustainable delicious protein that everyone can love.

Sweet Neighbor’s Come in All Colors | Children’s Book Review

I believe that teaching our children strong morals at a young age is probably the most important thing we can do as adults. Sometimes teaching these things can be difficult, but there are great books, shows, and experiences that can help us illustrate these topics to our children. Recently, I found a children’s book “Sweet Neighbor’s Come In All Colors” that not only is beautifully written and illustrated. It also helps create a dialog that even though we might be different, in essence, we are all the same.

Sweet Neighbor’s Come in All Colors by Lisa Blecker is a great way to introduce your children to diversity. Not only does it grab their attention with fun, colorful pictures, it also holds a great message. 




“Sweet Neighbors Come in All Colors” is designed for parents to help their young children ages 2-5 enjoy exploring what makes “neighbors” different, the same and lovable, all through the delightful colorful, medley of fantastic fruit seen in grocery stores all over the country. And, “Sweet Neighbors” is a great way to introduce early learners to colors of the rainbow!

Lisa Blecker is an award-winning children’s book writer, illustrator and a co-game creator whose books include “The Good in Me From A to Z by Dottie” and “Blessed Is the Spot.” She and her husband, Aaron Kreader both graduated from Carnegie Mellon University where they studied art and illustration. They run a family-friendly media and games publishing company called Studio 9 Inc. Lisa is also a regular freelance writer, artist, and concept developer for “Brilliant Star”—an award-winning international children’s magazine inspired by the teachings of the Bahá’í Faith. She received credentials for teaching art in the state of Florida. Her experience in education inside and outside of the public-school system informs and influences the materials she creates for children.


This book also includes an original song by Dick Grover. It’s a really cute way to end the story and makes it more memorable for the little ones.



I feel like this book is something every parent, grandparent, guardian and/or educator needs in their book collection.


My Thoughts on the Book


I thought this book was adorable. I really loved the illustrations, they are bright and colorful. Not only can you use this story to start a conversation about diversity with your kids, but you can also use it to learn about colors and fruits.


There are no “complicated” words and it is easy for young ones to understand. The song is a great touch that makes this story even more special.


Being someone of a self-proclaimed “book expert”, I really appreciated the thick glossy pages. It was a great size for a child to sit on your lap and see, and I wasn’t worried about the pages bending just from a child reading it.




Great, High Quality, Bright Illustrations



Reading is important and books like this make it easy to want to read to your children. I highly recommend.
